In Puerto Escondido, architecture studio OMA has unveiled a striking new structure dedicated entirely to fungi and it may be one of the most exciting mushroom projects in design today.

The Mushroom Pavilion is a domed, cave-like space created to support both mushroom cultivation and community gathering. Beneath its sculptural roof, the interior is divided into dedicated areas for incubation, fruiting and storage, carefully designed to create the ideal environment for mushrooms to thrive through natural light and passive ventilation.

What makes the space particularly unique is its multifunctional design. The stepped interior walls act not only as shelving for mushroom cultivation, but also as amphitheatre seating for workshops, talks and events, transforming the pavilion into a living hub for education, creativity and connection.

Built with minimal impact on the surrounding landscape, the pavilion reflects a growing movement toward architecture that works in harmony with nature rather than against it.
More than just a growing facility, the Mushroom Pavilion is a glimpse into the future: a space where fungi, sustainability, design and community come together under one roof.
