I’ve waited a long time to write this article not because other retreats took priority, but because I was waiting for the right moment. And now, that moment has arrived.

MycoMeditations is one of the few legal psilocybin retreats in the world. Based in Jamaica, they provide an approachable setting where guests from all walks of life can experience the power of one of nature’s oldest medicines. The retreat consists of a preparation period, a seven-day stay in Jamaica with the MycoMeditations team, where three high-dose psilocybin sessions take place and an essential integration protocol that follows these days. It is one of the longest-serving psychedelic retreat centers in the world and has already helped roughly two thousand guests who struggle with depression, anxiety and trauma.

MycoMeditations is truly the first retreat I recommend to anyone who asks me where to seek the best, most professional and trusted help. This is largely due to my incredible admiration for Myco’s Head Facilitator and CEO, Justin Townsend. Over the past 25 years, Justin has delved into both transpersonal and Jungian depth psychology, explored psychedelic modes of healing, and developed meditation and breathwork techniques, which he taught in Germany.

Justin is my mentor and a profound teacher who has supported me from the very beginning of Funga. He’s someone I can always count on, whether I have questions or want to connect him with someone who could truly benefit from psilocybin therapy. We recently released a podcast episode with him through Funga, which I highly recommend listening to for a deeper sense of who he is and the wisdom he brings.

Psilocybin is not illegal in Jamaica; rather, it is unregulated, meaning quite a few psilocybin retreats have located themselves there. “Set in a postcard-worthy location, where lush jungle meets white sands and the brazenly blue Caribbean Sea, MycoMeditations has offered a transformational experience to more than two thousand seekers. They individually evaluate each guest before the retreat, ensuring they feel it’s safe for each person to participate. The resort prides itself on an evidenced-based approach, adapting best practices for psychedelic therapy from institutions like Johns Hopkins and Imperial College London.”

Everyone I have recommended MycoMeditations to has experienced life-changing insights and returned a more connected and happy person. As I always say, psychedelics aren’t a magic pill, but they can open a powerful window into what’s possible. The real work begins afterward, through intentional integration. What makes Myco so special is that they support this process, offering ongoing online group integration sessions or connecting guests with trusted integration specialists from their network.

Starting from $6,750 up to $16,000, the retreat is not inexpensive, but as Justin Townsend said in an interview with Thrillist, “When people look at the cost, they might say, ‘Well, that’s expensive.’ But that’s one week in Jamaica compared to maybe decades of dysfunction and not living life to the full. That cost is relative.”
