As usual, I like to take a trip for my birthday and this year was no different. Since I was already spending the month in Mexico, I decided it was finally time to visit a place that’s been high on my list for a while and not too far away: Costa Rica.

But before diving into that journey, I want to share something even more significant that happened just a few days before I left. DMT has been on my radar for many years – a psychedelic I’ve always approached with deep respect and caution. I knew I would never try it unless I felt a strong, unmistakable calling. Two weeks before my birthday, that call came – loud and clear – and I’ve rarely been so certain that the time had arrived to answer.

One evening, I visited my friend Yannina in the south of Mexico City – the person I instinctively knew would be the right guide for this experience. While the trip itself didn’t unfold exactly as expected (as they often don’t), I was assured that the medicine had entered my body and that its effects would become clear in the weeks to follow. I was also told I’d be able to access it again through meditation and dreams, which was music to my ears, as those two practices are central to my life and bring me the deepest joy.

The very next day, I flew to San José.

After a beautiful first evening at my local friend’s home, I woke up the next morning eager to begin my meditation. What happened next was beyond anything I could have imagined. The moment I closed my eyes, I was transported straight back into my DMT journey. Sounds I hadn’t been able to recall before resurfaced and I felt my entire body slowly dissolve into a state of bliss I can only describe as pure love.. cheesy as that may sound.

Golden and yellow visuals surrounded me in full 360° and I remained in that space for an entire 20-minutes. Without a doubt, it was the most extraordinary meditation I’ve ever experienced.

The next stop was Nosara, a little surf town on the West Coast. My days were filled with all the integration practices I love the most. Early morning yoga sessions, hours in the sea, reflective journaling and bodywork.

It was also where I celebrated my actual birthday. I woke with the sun and made my way straight to the beach, welcoming a new year of life. The day unfolded like a dream, flowing in a state of elation and closing with a spectacular sunset at Coyol.

How lucky am I.

The final stop was Santa Teresa, where I stayed at Blue Mist – a new favorite and a place I wholeheartedly recommend. There’s no greater joy than waking up just a few meters from the sea, especially when it’s a beach as breathtaking as Playa Hermosa.

Few times in my life have I witnessed sunsets as extraordinary as the ones I saw during those days. It was a time of true disconnection and deeper reconnection. Hours passed with no thoughts of anything beyond the present moment. That was my greatest birthday wish and one I aim to always recreate during this special time of year.

More than ever, I feel a deep trust in the unfolding of things, both the beautiful and the challenging. My hope is to live in full alignment with the message I’m here to share with the world.. something that will become clearer in the months ahead.

Here’s to a year of complete surrender.

Until next time!
